How to prepare a photo and video project for your brand

A photo and video shoot works best when every image has a purpose. Before choosing a setting, start with where you will publish the content and the message you want to convey.

Define how the content will be used

Online store photographs, professional portraits and social media clips have different requirements. Specify where they will appear, which orientations you need and whether there should be room for headlines or graphics.

Bring visual references, not just adjectives

A few examples of lighting, colour and composition make the conversation more concrete. Explain what you like about each reference and what does not suit your brand. The aim is to agree on a shared direction, rather than copy another project.

Prepare the products and outfits

Check surfaces, labels and packaging. For portraits, choose clean, comfortable outfits that suit your audience. If you have several options, send preparation photos and decide with the team what to bring to the shoot.

Agree on the deliverables

Separate product images, atmosphere shots, portraits and video sequences. For each, note the approximate quantity, format and priority. This helps you estimate the shooting and editing time realistically.

Finish the brief with practical details

  • The person who approves the visual direction.
  • The list of products and participants.
  • The formats and publishing channels.
  • The preferred deadline and feedback process.

With these points in place, the conversation about the quote becomes clear: what we are producing, who it is for and what the project needs to deliver.
